DUNCAN, OK.--- Shawnee Little Theatre, Inc. took top honors this past weekend at the Oklahoma Community Theatre play festival with its production of "Gidion's Knot" besting five other community theatres for the spot. The local all-volunteer community theatre was one of two chosen to represent Oklahoma in regional competition in Albuquerque, N.M. in April 2015. Onstage Woodward will also compete in the regional contest.

Director Gregory Hopkins accepted the award for the production as well as winning "best scenic design and decoration" for the show. Rebecca Fry won a "best actress" award for her performance in the show. SLT also won recognition for marketing with third place awards for posters and a season brochure from past seasons.

"Gidion's Knot", by Johnna Adams is a play about the right to free expression and whether it is limited by society's needs. It is the story of a confrontation between a mother and a teacher during a 60 minute parent teacher conference. The show raises profound questions about parenting and education and documents the gut-wrenching force of maternal loyalty.

The drama also features Nicki Sherman in the cast. Lynn Goodson is the stage manager. The Shawnee production is an Oklahoma premiere of the play. The drama contains intense mature situations and language. It is not recommended for young audiences.

Although the show was performed twice in Shawnee before the festival, the play will be presented again following SLT's Annual Meeting Thursday July 31, at SLT. No admission will be charged, but donations will be accepted to fund the theatre troupe's journey to New Mexico. The Annual Meeting will begin at 7pm followed by the play. Corporation reviews of the past year and election of four new board members will be on the meeting agenda. All season ticket holders may vote in the election.

SLT's annual meeting will be Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 7:30pm at the theatre. Financial reports, election of new board members, new season and other business is on the agenda. NOTE: We'll be unveiling our new sound booth and remodeled green room at the meeting. Renovations are now in progress.
